My first sculpted bag cake

“There is always a first time.” Since I’ve only been baking for a few years (about four years to be exact), I’ve had a lot of firsts in recent memory. I’ll be telling you all about them in my future posts. But let us focus on the present. I’ve done something for the first time today. It was my first time to make a sculpted bag cake! I am so happy that I finally got to make one! This isn’t my first time to make a bag for a cake. I couldn’t count the times I have been asked to make bags and shoes for cakes and cupcakes.

However, all those times in the past, I didn’t carve out a designer bag from cake. I only made fondant purses to be placed on top of cakes and cupcakes. This time, though, even if this was a rush order, I decided that it was time for me to give it a try. It was now or never. I chose to model the cake after a Birkin Hermes bag because I felt that the design was easy enough to copy. The bag measured 8.5 inches by 7 inches by 4 inches. It was carved from my signature moist chocolate cake filled with ganache. The MAC and NARS makeup palettes are also made of cake covered in fondant. I added a few more makeup pieces and two silver bangles.

I think it looks pretty nice. I guess I did good even for a first-timer!
